Welcome to 4FAME, a brand new website dedicated solely to underground music. The main purpose of the website is to allow underground musicians the opportunity to network and promote their music to a wide audience.

The idea of 4FAME started back in 2000 when a couple of students at The University of Georgia, in Athens, GA, became inspired by the phenomenal success of Napster. The feeling was that most of the users of Napster were only downloading “mainstream” artists, which is why the major record labels stepped in to stop the illegal downloading of their artists’ music.

The students, also users of Napster, felt that so many mainstream musicians nowadays are putting out albums that are, quite frankly, terrible. An album with 18 songs averages only 2-3 tracks that are worth listening to! The students began noticing the strong success and diversity of the underground music scene right in their own backyard. Local clubs, such as the 40 Watt and the Georgia Theater, would bring in all types of great underground acts across the country. After attending various shows, the students realized what great, new music was out there, but just not getting enough exposure. Building on the premise of Napster, the students thought it was time a website was made to help underground artists gain the exposure they need to reach a broader base of listeners. So, the students set out on a venture to create a website that caters strictly to underground music. The website would allow for free downloading of music, but the difference from Napster, would be that the artists on this website, would willingly upload their own music, with bios of themselves. In addition, there would be a streaming radio station for users to scan through the extensive collection of music.

Years later, 4FAME is now a reality. Our goal is still to connect the underground to the mainstream. Although this may sound like a contradiction, if one thinks about it carefully, most mainstream artists started off “underground”. From boy bands to hip hop moguls built from big record companies, they all started off paying their dues performing at malls or high school rallies. We feel that 4FAME helps level the playing field between underground and mainstream by offering the underground genres the chance to expose themselves to fans they otherwise could not connect with due to lack of money and resources.

We understand that there are other websites that offer similar features as 4FAME. The difference is that those websites also cater to mainstream artists, or if they are strictly for underground artists they are doing a poor job promoting to the public. We at 4FAME promise to actively promote the site to make the general public aware of the fresh, new artists and music that we have on the site. We also promise to not only have the easiest to use, but also the best looking site out of all the competition.
