M.E.D. BIO
Known for stretching the minds of their fans through melodic, thought provoking lyrics and bass heavy beats, M.E.D. is a three-member group consisting of L-C.I.D, Philosophy and Anagram. Hailing from Kalamazoo, MI each member of the group writes their own verses and collaborates collectively on the style, tone, and direction of the music. M.E.D. has often been compared to such artists as The Beastie Boys, Eminem, and Outkast to name a few.
While grateful for the comparison, the highly anticipated group is focused on building their own unique brand diverting from the typical sound and image of your stereotypical rappers." M.E.D. developed their unique style, cadence, and swagger articulating a flow that is fast but smooth. Their music conveys a sound that people can dance, sing, and bounce to. M.E.D. was discovered by Frank Glass, owner of Mobb North a Detroit based independent label.
M.E.D. has been the opening act for Twista, Bizarre, Paul Wall, One Be Lo, and Brand Nubian. M.E.D. set a precedent by being the first Hip-Hop group to perform at Oklahoma City's New Years Eve Festival. In January, they kicked off 2009 by dropping their first single "Money” (which is more about obtaining cash than having it). The accompanying video is close to reaching 1,000,000 YouTube views and the full length CD has a late 2009 release date.
ABOUT M.E.D. GROUP MEMBERS
ANAGRAM: known as level headed and serious. His name means a word or phrase formed by reordering the letters of another word or phrase such as satin to stain. His parents are trained vocalists and heavily involved in the arts, which gave him inspiration to cultivate his own craft. Anagram stated the group they ran the leather off their Jordan’s working to build the groups' fan base. "We pounded the streets with promotion for all of our shows at liquor stores, gas stations, clubs, intersections, large events, and every other place that would allow it." It was a group effort handling every aspect of their musical career from recording to grass roots marketing.
PHILOSOPHY: known for his versatility. He says, “I can be silly or serious depending on what the situation calls for.” His name originates from Greek terms philos and sophia meaning "love of wisdom." Philosophy fell in love with hip-hop at the age of 4 yrs. old when his grandmother bought him a Fisher Price radio and he tuned into local Detroit stations. He spent his early years drawing, writing poetry, and entering local rap contests. He is the son of an English Major so writing was a natural fit. Philosophy has been primarily responsible for graphic design, networking, booking, and promotion. Philosophy believes that M.E.D. is about substance. “We’re hard to define because of how dynamic our subject matter is.”
L-C.I.D: is known as the comedian. When asked to describe M.E.D. he answered, "Mental Elastic, Google That S@%$. His name is an acronym for Lyrics Constantly in Demand. He grew up in a home surrounded by music; his mom admired the Motown sound and his father was a jazz enthusiast. L-C.I.D. says "I embrace all kinds of music, but hip-hop allows me to reach inside of my soul and connect with the masses on a personal level." He has been primarily responsible for all of M.E.D's recording and engineering. As far as the Beastie Boys comparison, he says we have the same skin color, but adds, “It’s like comparing apples, there are many varieties but at the end of the day they are all just apples."
