Be Thankful
I have been watching this horrible situation unfold in Haiti. It is truly amazing how good we have it in the U.S. as compared to some of our neighbors. I was watching this 9 year girl getting her leg stitched up with no pain killers and her yelling was unbearable. I am always confused at how a countries political elite could allow the people to suffer in such misery. We are all aware that Haiti is a very poor country and the standard of living is next to nothing. I know most will look for the easy way out and blame the United States but maybe that is not how we should be looking at this situation. There has to be self accountability for your situation, what I mean is Haitians have allowed themselves to be victims of routine poverty. This is done specifically by electing politicians that only think about their self interest and not what is best for the country. I will say that people have a lot more control over their situation and it is very scary when people start to feel like everything is hopeless. The earthquake was a horrible tragedy and rest assure Haiti will be rebuilt. The main question that I have is will Haiti go right back to being the poorest country in the western hemisphere or will they finally take some self accountability and build a strong infrastructure, which can provide for a future that can be very bright? I know the Haitian people are very strong and hardworking people, which is why it does not make sense that a country with such an intelligent population can be so poor. It always bothers me when people make excuses for why others are not living up to their full potential. In human history we have seen countless individuals come from absolutely nothing and make something big of themselves. When I hear any Americans giving me excuses as to why they have not or can not do something, it makes me furious because the opportunities we have in the country are limitless. We all look at the Haitian situation and not just give our sympathy but also take some time to reflect on our own personal situations and maybe we can start to see things a little more clearer.
I do recommend everybody donate to help out our brothers and sisters in need. I sent $700.00, which really isn't much but every penny, nickel, and dime counts!
Peace and Blessings!
